Mark Argent

People come to psychotherapy for lots of reasons – sometimes that’s a particular concern, such as depression or anxiety or relationship issues, sometimes there’s an “itch” that says life could be lived more fully, sometimes it’s a desire to deepen their creativity, or to come to a deeper understanding of themselves and how they relate to those around them.

We meet regularly. Some people come twice weekly, some weekly, for 50-minute sessions. In these people are encouraged to speak freely about what is going from them, including dreams and associations. Underlying this is the idea that the processes of the unconscious are healing ones, helping us to live more fully, and a psychoanalytic approach to psychotherapy can help things emerge from the unconscious in a way that enriches our lives and understanding.

Very often the desire to explore therapy is a sign that it will be beneficial – if someone is thinking about the possibility of therapy, that’s often a prompting from the unconscious that the time is right.

Mark’s original training (1997-2004) focussed on short-term, high-frequency work with a particular specialisation in religion / spirituality. Professional development since then has included a course with the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research and further advanced training with The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. He’s a member of the International Society for Psychoanalytic Study of Organisations.

Normally we meet for an exploratory session, before starting to work together.
