Leonardo has got a diploma in Acupuncture and Shiatsu therapy in 1997 and later on, in 2000, a Bsc degree in Physiotherapy. He worked in different companies and clinics in Rio de Janeiro until 2008, when he moved to London. In 2009 he acquired an ITEC diploma in Sports Massage Therapy which has been his main focus of work since then. His treatment goes beyond massage as he applies much of his knowledge in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, often achieving great and fast results.
He’s always been very interested in a variety of sports and has always devoted himself to it. He did karate, judo, boxing and is black belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu since 2004. He also plays football, beach volleyball, practices running, cycling, hiking and climbing. Due to his personal interest and commitment to sports, one of his focuses is treating professional and amateur athletes, having assisted a variety of professional athletes such as football and basket players, ballet dancers, runners, brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA fighters and a number of non professional sports practitioners. Despite his obvious interest in sports he is more than happy to treat non sports enthusiasts from different ages, habits and needs.
On his sessions, he always prioritizes a personal treatment with good quality. Making sure patients are comfortable and confident. He believes work must be done carefully and respectfully, being aware to every reaction patient may have. At the same time, he is opened to listen to them. He believes in this way he will be able to properly reach the objectives and benefits of the treatment.
Sports Massage combines the use of Swedish massage with additional more intensive techniques, for the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, as tendinitis, strains and sprains. Sports massage was designed for athletes, but is useful for anyone with chronic pain, injury or restricted range of motion.
Some benefits of the Sports Massage:
- Reduce the chance of injury, through proper stretching and event preparation.
- Improve range of motion and muscle flexibility, resulting in improved power and performance.
- Shorten recovery time between workouts.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction. Deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.
Swedish massage is geared towards detoxification by increasing the speed by which the cells of the body eliminate their waste materials. But more than that, brings to the receiver an immense feeling of satisfaction and relaxation.
Shiatsu massage is derived from the Japanese meaning “finger pressure”. It follows the same principles as acupuncture, but without the use of needles. This method of massage focuses on the meridians (energy points) of the body and aims to relieve blockages of these meridians by massaging vital pressure points. It can be performed while the person is fully clothed. Shiatsu can also promote the prevention and recovery of illnesses by stimulating the immune system and natural healing power that people already possess without treating a specific problem. Treats the body as a whole, helping to restore the physical functions of the nervous system, circulatory system, bone structure, muscles, and internal secretion and stimulates the whole of the mind and body to find harmony.
