Dr Anna Zeffertt is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with 22 years experience in the NHS. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and Chartered with the British Psychological Society.
Anna has experience working with a wide range of psychological problems and can provide treatment using evidence based practice for the following problems in children, adolescents, and adults:
Child Adolescent or Adult – about the service offered:
- anxiety conditions such as panic disorder, generalised anxiety, OCD, body dysmorphic disorder;
- post traumatic stress following chronic traumatic life experiences and also single traumatic events of violent and/or accidental cause;
- health related stress reactions arising from chronic health conditions such as diabetes, syndromic difference, hearing loss and dentistry;
- plastic surgery related anxieties arising from, for example, visible difference;
- depression and chronic low mood including self harm;
- misuse of alcohol and drugs and their relationship with attempts to manage stress and low mood;
- behaviour management in the context of developmental stage, attachment and family system;
What therapies are available?
Anna has trained in a number of therapies and has specialised in their application particularly to children and young people but also to adults. She mainly works with the evidence based practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and uses Systemic Therapy for problems that lie more broadly within the family system.
Anna has a particular interest in working with post traumatic stress and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Child Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CF-CBT). Anna uses Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy approaches. She regularly attends continuing professional development and supervision to maintain her expertise and ensure good practice.
Qualifications and Experience:
After finishing her doctorate in Psychology at York University Anna travelled to Sri Lanka for 3 years, setting up Counselling services for survivors of civil war. She, therefore, has a particular interest in cross cultural issues. She then moved to Scotland to complete her professional qualification in Clinical Psychology at University of Edinburgh in 1993.
After working at Edinburgh at the Sick Children’s Hospital, she moved to London to the Traumatic Stress Clinic and Great Ormond Street Hospital. For the last 17 years she has worked in Cambridge and has good links to all services locally. During this time she has worked with children, adolescents and their parents in In-Patient and Out-patient and Hospital settings, and in Social Care for Cambridgeshire County Council. She worked at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for 9 years as the psychologist in the plastic surgery team for Cleft Lip and Palate and has a strong background in visible difference, speech difference, hearing loss, dental fears, coping with surgery, relationship attachment problems and bullying and teasing as well as more general health care issues with all age ranges.
As a Consultant she has worked as manager and supervisor of services, providing therapy for complex needs. She has worked as a Clinical Psychology Lecturer on the University of East Anglia doctoral training course and from time to time provided a professional witness service to Court Services. Over her NHS career she has clinically supervised many clinical psychologists and also provided supervision to colleagues in other psychological therapy and health settings.
