Amanda completed five years, full-time training in integrative psychotherapy at the UniFMU in Brazil, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Psychotherapy. She has a postgraduate certificate in Psychological counselling with people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and children, and a postgraduate certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills.
She also completed four years of training in Transpersonal Psychotherapy at Energy Dynamic of the Psyche (DEP), an institute in Brazil, and has counselling skills certificates working with both children and adults.
While studying, Amanda has worked as a psychotherapist in a wide range of settings including hospitals, schools, clients’ homes, and a private clinic. She has worked with clients affected by different kinds of mental health issues, from anxiety to personality disorders.
She currently works one-to-one with clients in Mind Cambridge, helping people to identify where they need support and to find ways to get it. She also volunteers weekly with Home-Start, a charity that supports families of young children who are struggling with parenting for different reasons (such as domestic violence, personality disorders, or having more than one child under-five).
Amanda believes that we all have choices that we are responsible for, and ultimately, that we are responsible for the way we experience life. But she also understands that sometimes our choices can be shaped by the way we perceive ourselves, by people around us, or by society’s expectations. Therefore, exploring past experiences in order to discover where our vision may be clouded by such factors can be very important. It is vital for each of us to live a fulfilled life, and that only can be achieved in the present moment. But to do this, sometimes it is necessary to take our minds back to the past, to solve unsolved issues that may be creating anxiety about the future, and preventing us from living our life right here, right now. To live in the ‘now’ is much more than merely being physically present; it is to feel free from the permanent sensations of anxiety, sadness, fear and inadequacy.
Amanda has a passion for helping people to find resources within themselves to live a fulfilled life, a passion she nurtures by dedicating her life to reading, researching and studying, in order to learn techniques and skills that further empower her to do just that.
We all have the need and ability to develop ourselves as human beings. Sometimes it is easier to acknowledge this when we are facing recurring problems, but psychotherapy goes beyond that. It is a tool to help us develop self-awareness and skills that can be used throughout life, for us to be the best we can be in each phase of life, no matter our age, our culture, background or problems.
She provides a non-judgemental, safe place for you to talk, be listened to, and, together, to find where you need the support and work with you on it.
